Charles Chima

Dr. Charles Chima is a Program Director and Assistant Professor of Population Health Science at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Charles is a population health scientist with expertise in improving chronic disease outcomes through delivery science innovation. His work is centered on developing effective chronic care models for addressing both clinical (access and quality) and non-clinical (behavioral and socioeconomic) determinants of health.

Charles’ work has been recognized internationally, including an award by the Swedish Society of Medicine for a co-authored paper on the delayed effects of in-utero and infantile food deprivation on risk of chronic diseases later in life.  His Harnisch-funded project titled “Coaching and Education for Diabetes Distress – A Randomized Controlled Trial” seeks to improve diabetes outcomes through behavioral coaching.
