The “Ted Lasso Effect” on Leadership Coaching

Please join Eileen Coskey Fracchia, IOC: Strategic Advisor, Thought Leader & West Coast Roundtable Host, and the host committee, Jayne Dundes, Leslie Solomon and Trisha Mason Parsad for our 22nd West Coast Roundtable (virtual), Thursday, June 22, 2023, 8:00 am – 10:00 am PST.

The central focus of our discussion will revolve around the "Ted Lasso Effect" and its implications for coaching and leadership, encompassing the realms of leading teams and organizations. The entertainment industry possesses the influential ability to shape our perceptions in these areas. Popular TV shows like "Ted Lasso" and "Shrinking," along with movies such as "Miracle" and the most recent release, "Air," have gained attention for their portrayal of coaching and leadership dynamics. While "Shrinking" primarily focuses on therapy, (where a grieving therapist, tries a new approach with his patients: unfiltered honesty), the methods used in the show are still highly relevant and offer valuable insights into various techniques and approach philosophies.

As coaches, it is crucial for us to stay abreast of current programming and understand how entertainment defines and reflects coaching, leadership, and leading teams and organizations. We, the host committee, feel confident that together, we can explore various developmental angles, shape meaningful inquiries, and even watch a few relevant clips to enrich our discussion.

To familiarize yourself with this topic, I recommend reading the following articles:

Information and additional pre-reading articles/thinking will be sent out to all registrants the week of our Roundtable conversation.

If you have questions or need additional information, please email Eileen Fracchia or Tiffany Dally.

Roundtable meetings promise:

  • A marketing-free, inclusive, and peer-based learning space for coaches to learn about and share new coaching concepts and research.
  • A community of coaching professionals to provide peer coaching and support for developing the “growing edge” of our respective capabilities.
  • Ways to apply the resources available through the IOC to real coaching situations through case consultation and group seminars.

The format is a series of three to four 2-hour events over the course of the year. Each session includes a topic facilitated by an IOC member, discussion of practice and application with that topic, along with case consultation and peer coaching depending on the topic and needs of the group.
