CANDY DEEMER is an Executive Coach and Co-author of “Dancing on the Glass Ceiling” (McGraw-Hill 2003). She is also an instructor in the Executive MBA program at Loyola Marymount University, where she has taught Professional Growth Planning since 2005—giving mid-career executives tools and strategies to better assess themselves and their career choices. Candy is certified as a Professional Co-Active Coach and a Stakeholder-Centered Coach. She’s been coaching business and nonprofit executives for 15+ years. Her special expertise is individuals (particularly women) in middle-to-senior management positions in larger organizations. She helps them become more effective and inspiring leaders of their teams, and more effective at “managing up” and “reaching out” (networking!).

Candy’s first career was Advertising. She spent 22 years in client services and agency management, primarily with DDB Worldwide Communications in Chicago and Los Angeles. She was the Co-Managing Director/COO (and highest-ranking woman) in DDB’s Los Angeles office.

Candy has served on the Boards of Directors of the American Advertising Museum, Students in Free Enterprise, and is a founding partner and founding board member of Social Venture Partners Los Angeles, a diverse group of professionals who give money and volunteer their expertise to help accelerate the growth and expand the impact of local nonprofits. Her main volunteer focus with SVPLA has been coaching charter school founders, as well as several non-profit winners of SVPLA’s annual Social Innovation Fast Pitch competition.

Candy holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Advertising from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and has served on the Board of Advisors of Medill. She is a Charter member and former Chair of the Council of One Hundred, a national group of distinguished Northwestern alumnae who are selected to be career role models and mentors to the University’s women students and young alumnae. Candy has also served as a national Director-at-Large for the Northwestern Alumni Association, and is currently a Vice President on the NAA’s Executive Board.

Candy lives in Manhattan Beach, CA and is married, with three sons and one ginormous dog. An avid traveler, she has visited 40 countries, including a year living in Spain with her family. She is “casi-fluent” in Spanish, and speaks English pretty well, too.
