Why is change so difficult, even when we (and our clients) are genuinely committed to it?  What can we do to increase the chances our efforts to change will succeed? This highly interactive workshop will introduce you to the Immunity to Change (ITC) approach by giving you the chance to try it on for yourself. Based on decades of research in adult development, ITC helps individuals, teams and organizations gain a powerful picture of the systematic way they unintentionally work against their goals and what they can do to disrupt that system.

The workshop is designed to give you the experience of fully experiencing ITC yourself before thinking about whether/how you would use it in your own coaching.  There will be a follow-up session where questions about how to use this approach with clients can be addressed.

You will learn:

  • How to draft your own Immunity to Change map
  • What types of challenges ITC is designed to address
  • How to design a small experiment for yourself to shift a limiting mindset

The workshops will not be recorded. You must attend live.

Preparation

Come to the workshop with an improvement goal in mind! Here is how to choose one:

  1. Consider the three or four activities you deem most important in your work as you try to accomplish your own goals and/or those of your organization.
  2. Now, keeping just these activities in mind, name the one or two things you consider would be most valuable for you personally to get significantly better at. For example, in response to the first question you may have listed “having a larger client base” as a key activity; but the thing you may need to get better at in order to do it might be, “doing a better job promoting my business,” or “being more effective at networking.”
  3. Write down this improvement goal and bring it with you to the workshop.

Sample Improvement Goals

  • I am committed to getting better at:
  • Setting boundaries on my time
  • Delivering difficult feedback
  • Working confidently and effectively with arrogant leaders
  • Prioritizing the work that matters most to me
  • Negotiating contracts equitably
  • Coaching people who are very different than I am
  • Coaching people who are quite similar to me
  • Staying organized and meeting deadlines
  • Treating myself with compassion
  • Managing my finances

Expect that you’ll be reflecting deeply and sharing with one or two others.
