Leveraging Cultural Intelligence: How to Connect Deeper as a Coach in Asia

In today's diverse global coaching landscape, understanding the cultural nuances of our clients is paramount. This is especially true in Asia where a wide variety of cultures and subcultures reside. This cultural subtext has a large impact on the thought-processes & behaviours, and capacity for connection within the coaching container, for both coach and client alike.

The core of coaching philosophy has so far been largely led by Western understanding. In order to make it culturally congruent to the Eastern ethos; it is necessary to adapt the dynamics of the coaching relationship for deeper connections and higher impact in the Asian context. In a world where crossing boundaries is routine, nuanced cultural awareness and context, becomes a highly sought advantage in Asia.

Cultural Intelligence becomes a necessary added dimension of awareness that takes coaches to another level of trust and emotional connection allowing them to be truly present 'to the emerging field'.

Join us for this edition of the IOC Asia Roundtable Discussion taking place on Thursday, December 14th at 7:00 PM SG/HK and take part in a co-creative, shared discovery of cross-cultural practices and perspectives with fellow participants. The session will deep dive into discussion points around:

  • Research-based understanding of Cultural Intelligence and the emerging perspectives.
  • Exploring how conventional Western ethos of coaching may an may not apply to the Eastern ethos, and how the cultural subtext impacts coaching relationships in Asia.
  • Sharpening your cultural Intelligence and integrating it as an essential complementary skill to your coaching.

This roundtable will be facilitated by Taruna Aggarwal with Becky Kux and Dr. Rupinder Kaur, members of the Institute of Coaching based in Singapore, Malaysia and India.
