Born to Eritrean parents in Ethiopia at the height of Eritrea’s war for independence, Huria came to Germany with her family at the tender age of 4 where she was raised and completed her secondary education and undergraduate studies. Her family background history and upbringing instilled in her early on an interest in societal changes and conflict resolution.

After graduating from the Fletcher School with an MA in Law and Diplomacy, Huria joined the United Nation’s peacekeeping effort. Her assignments took her to Sudan, Somalia and New York and allowed her to travel to many other countries in far-flung corners of the globe. Above all, Huria worked in the most diverse environments imaginable, not only in terms of cultures and nationalities but also age, professional background and underlying value system. This experience has taught Huria the valuable lessons about what it truly means to build belonging and trust in diverse teams.

Over the years, Huria’s professional interests shifted from resolving conflicts externally to concentrating on challenges internal to the organization. As a senior advisor to UN executives, leading policy and organizational learning initiatives, Huria was driven to improve the way things got done around her and this meant focusing on the people, processes and structures.

In 2017, Huria became an independent leadership coach & organizational development consultant. Huria is passionate about helping organizational leaders navigate the complexities and dilemmas inherent in leadership roles. Whether they are looking to be a more effective leader of others or increase their executive presence and influence within the organization, Huria’s coaching helps leaders build and strengthen the skills and capacities they need to have the maximum impact in an increasingly complex context while being the leader they wish to be.

Drawing on her diverse background and international experience, she is fortunate to work globally with a diverse set of clients ranging from the United Nations to tech companies, consulting businesses and non-governmental organizations. Today, Huria is based in Berlin, Germany and primarily coaches her clients virtually in both English & German language.
